“Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus.”

Sorry to keep diverging from Awkward+Awesome Thursday. I keep seeing this video, and I feel the need to share it along with a few other awesome things that sum up my own feelings on the subject…

“I think I’ve lost hope in the church,” I confessed, broken hearted, to a friend. I will never forget her response. “No, you haven’t lost hope in the church. You may have lost hope in Christianity of Christendom, or all the institutions, but you haven’t lost hope in the church. This is the church.” At that moment, we decided to stop complaining about the church that we saw, and we set our hearts on becoming the church we dreamed of.

Another friend says to Claiborne: “Shane, I am not a Christian anymore. I gave up Christianity in order to follow Jesus.”

Simply Awesome: Christmas Gifts Edition

I promise I will return to Awkward and Awesome Thursday next week, but I couldn’t let another day go by without exclaiming about my Christmas gifts! Allll of these things are pretty AWESOME.

Toms Morocco Classic (Vegan) – Toms are my favorite and these are no exception. They are just as cute and wonderful as always.

Coleman Sundome 4 Person Tent – This tent is the perfect size for my little family- me, Jordan, and Loosey. I can’t wait to try it out!

Field and Stream Hydration Pack – I’m super excited to have this. it holds 2 liters of water and has enough room for all the extras, such as snacks, sunscreen, etc.

Black Diamond Headlamp- this one is for children, but it is pink! Headlamps are so convenient to have while camping, so I’m pretty excited to have it this summer.

Warby Parker Everett sunglasses (Gimlett Tortoise Color) It is most definitely time for me to have real sunglasses. I’ve been relying on crappy Forever 21/Target/etc glasses and those do absolutely nothing to protect your eyes from the sun. I’m so glad to have these! ***The Colton prescription glasses in Whiskey Tortoise are pretty sweet too- I’ve been wearing those everyday for a while.***

Vera Bradley All in One Wristlet (Happy Snails) – I’m way too embarrassed to even show you how dirty and used my old one is.

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? – I love the Office, I love Mindy, of course I’m gonna love this.

Those are just a few of the awesome things I was blessed this year. What were your favorite gifts and treasures?

Simply awesome.

I interrupt the regular scheduled programming to bring you a special “awesome” only edition of Thursday in honor of the beautiful holiday season. With no rhyme or reason, I bring to you many of the things i’ve been diggin’ lately…….

-making friends with starbucks employees and getting my coffee free every day, especially peppermint lattes. yummmm.

-fantasy sports and the nerdiness that ensues when my friends and i talk about it. also, the league.

-the ridiculous gold dress i bought at h&m for christmas eve at my aunt’s house. she asked us to wear something festive/sparkly and she will most definitely be getting her wish.

-my awesome book club. they are seriously the best. if you live in denver and like to read, join us! we are reading “the handmaids tale” this month.

-leggings, jeggings, and the ilk as pants. trash it all you want but in the winter it is really just the most comfortable look. i’m doing it right now and i don’t care who knows it. and who likes bothering with buttons? gross.

-having a boyfriend who just won’t bother with box macncheese. go ahead and enjoy your kraft- i’ll take melted cheddar with cream and bacon please. 🙂

-waking up to loosey’s slobber face smiling at me. it is a tad annoying when the wake up call is at 8:30 in the morning, but still so freakin’ adorable.

-a foot of snow! it is difficult to drive in, but gorgeous.

What things are awesome in your life lately?

[thankful] Colorado Rocky Mountain High

As I sit down to write about a third thing I’m thankful for, Ican’t help but look outside and notice the BEAUTIFUL Colorado day we’re having. It’s 65 degrees and sunny with nothing but blue sky. The third thing I’m thankful for is most definitely The Centennial State and the Mile High City. 🙂 Here are the BEST things about living in Colorado (especially Denver)…..

-300 days of sunshine!!! Everyone always thinks that once October hits we are permanently in our parkas and that is just not the case. Although I love a good snowstorm, I love how many nice days we have. Even on days when it snows, the sun still comes out. I’m thankful for all the Vitamin D I get.

-MOUNTAINS. LAKES. RIVERS. SAND DUNES. PINE TREES. ASPEN TREES. MAPLE TREES. EVERYTHING IS BEAUTIFUL.

-According to this article that has been resurfacing on Facebook lately, Denver is the “the manliest, drunkest, business-iest, happiest, safe-sex-having-ist city in America.” I couldn’t agree with this quote from the article more: “We’re young, we’re happy, we’re single, we’re shit-faced, we’re well-protected, we’re healthy, we have better-than-adequate access to capital, we take what need and we use what we take. Life is good, my friends.”

-Craft Beer is like water here.

-In most cities there are 7 degrees between everyone but here it is more like 2. It can be annoying sometimes to always see the same people, but I love that I never really feel like a stranger.

I could go on and on about all the things I love about Denver and Colorado….. I’m just so thankful for my hometown. 🙂

I hope you all get to appreciate your hometown this week!

[thankful] Oh Dear Christian College, We Love You…

For day two of my series on being thankful, I could think of nothing more fitting than the wonderful college I attended- Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas. ACU is a small Christian school in a pretty small town in west Texas, 1200 miles away from Denver. I would be lying if I said I didn’t have some times when I wanted to come home, but looking back on the experience I wouldn’t change it for the world.

I met some of the most amazing people in my four years there that I am still continually blessed by. The roommates I had while I was there made college the BEST- Celina, Audrey, Jessica, Taylor, and Jordan. Although many times we had what most would say were “lame” nights for college kids, the many nights we spent watching movies, baking, having silly theme parties, and just enjoying eachother will stick with me forever.

I also had some of the best professors who knew my name and really cared about my success, which is something you can’t find at a lot of schools. I also can’t really put in to words how amazing it was to have teachers who were Christians and weren’t afraid to use the bible in class. Learning about Jesus while I learned about other subjects really enriched my life in ways that I wouldn’t have found at a large state school.

I’m so blessed to have attended ACU and I thank God often for the memories I made there. 🙂

I hope you all loved college as much as I did.
